Concordia University
Cross Country Classic 2017
Mequon, Wisconsin

It was a beautiful day on a beautiful campus.  This is one of our bigger meets of the season with 125 boys and 88 girls competing this year from all over the Midwest, all of them from Lutheran schools.  Concordia does a great job of hosting the athletes and feeding all in attendance on race day...for free!

Concordia is right on the shore of Lake Michigan, so one of the perks of this course is the beautiful view of the water!

Even though our name changed several years ago, we're still known here as "Walther Lutheran."

Girls ran first at 10:15 a.m.
Here, she is...our Lone Ranger for the girls.

Final instructions from the ref.

Off she goes!

Coach Goffron cheering her on.

Addy came in with a time of 29:25.17.  This was 41 seconds faster than her time at Mequon last year.  Way to go, Addy!!!
This, by the way, is what we're doing...training for November (State)!!!
Next up at 11:15 a.m. came the boys...

Final warm-ups

...and final instructions

Our runners did a great job of sticking together.  In fact, by the end of the race, our number 1 and number 5 runners were only 35 seconds apart.  3 of our middle runners crossed the finish line within 2 seconds of each other.

Darryl ended up being our #1 runner for the team.  He finished in 30th place overall with a time of 19:45.  This was more than two minutes faster than his time here last year.  Woohoo!!!

x
Jacob worked himself into 2nd place for the team within the final few seconds of the race.  He was 35th overall, and finished with a time of 20:08.  This was more than a minute and a half faster than last year's race.  WOW!

Christan, on the far right, was only 2 seconds behind Jacob, finishing in 36th place with a time of 20:10.58.  Superb!!
David was only 0.39 seconds behind Christian, finishing in 37th place in 20:10.97.  He was 6 seconds slower than last year, but considering his year off of running, that's not bad at all!!!

Quang was our #5 runner, finishing in 40th overall, with a time of 20:20.09.  This was nearly 3 minutes faster than last year's performance.  What an improvement!!!
Nate was fighting off a cramp, but still performed well, finishing in 20:31.80 (49th overall).  Way to go, Nate!

Josh, a newcomer to the team, finished right in the middle of all the racers, with an impressive time of 21:36 for his first-ever 5K.  Keep it up, Josh!

Rafael & Steven stuck together all the way through to the end.  Steven crossed the line first in 22:46.92, and Rafael was right behind him, finishing in  22:47.42.  Way to push each other, guys!
This was Aaron's first 5K.  He finished strong in a time of 23:42.08.  Great job!

This was also Andrew's first 5K.  He completed the course in 30:14.97.  Way to push on through!!
Here are some additional photos that were sent to me after the fact:

If you have any pictures that you can send my way, please do.  As you can see, I did not get equal coverage of all of the runners.

Next race is coming up on the 9th of September at ICCP in Elmhurst.  See you there!

And here are some more pictures from the day...
