Westmont High School
Cross Country Meet

aka
The Westmont 500  @ Home
(according to Westmont's website)

aka
The Return of Eric and Jack!
Isn't it great to see them in their uniforms again!
(Although Eric looks a little happier than Jack.)

Though Westmont records their course as being a 3 mile race, it always looks and feels more like a 5K.  Traditionally, this course is not known as a place where a lot of our runners get their PR, and today was no exception to that.  However, times aside, today it was our places that counted and the Walther boys finished this meet on TOP!!!!

The girls began the meet:  Demaja and Claudia

Demaja had to pull out of the race, so Claudia ended up being our sole female runner today. She finished with a strong time of 27:22.  You should have seen her sprint at the finish line!  Way to go, Claudia!!!

The boys ran the 2nd and final race of the day:

We had 14 boys running today!  (Does anyone see the photo bomber???)

"Let's all do the Twist!"

Keeping those muscles loose and warm.

Warming up or showing off???

Our sideline supporters.

 Our 3 front runners

Luis made it to the #2 spot overall, finishing first for our team with a time of 17:39.  He was one of our few runners who got his PR today.  Well done!!!

Jaylin was 6th overall, finishing in 18:01.  This was also a PR for him.  Fantastic!

Mitch was 3rd for the team and finished in 8th place.  His time was 18:22.  Great run!

Jose and David battled it out for the #4 and #5 spots for the team.

David finished in 9th place overall with a time of 18:25.  Way to stay strong!
It seems Jose's new trademark is to put his head down low as he sprints toward the finish line.  Maybe it's working for him: He finished 10th overall and was the last scoring runner for the team, completing the course in 18:28.  Great job!

Eric finished 6th for the team in spite of taking it easy!  His final time was 19:40.  It's safe to say that he also got his PR for this year so far.  Ha ha.  It's nice to have you back, Eric!

Julio was our number 7 guy, taking 22nd place and finishing in  20:15.  Superb!

Steven, my apologies...I had the hardest time getting a clear picture of you today.  Must have been due to your excessive speed!  Steven finished right after Julio with a time of 20:27.  Congrats!

It's great to have Jack back, also!  He followed immediately behind Steven, completing his course in  20:33.  Like Eric, this is also a PR for the year!  :-)

Aaron & James battled it out between the two of them for most of the race.

Aaron ultimately pushed ahead at the end, finishing in  20:52.  James was only a second behind him.  Way to go, both of you!

Xavier also achieved another PR today!  His final time for this race was 25:45.  Way to stay strong!

Daniel gets the Good Samaritan Award.  He sacrificed finishing his race in order to help Steven, who had hurt his knee.  Way to be supportive, Daniel.  And don't get discouraged, Steven.  It happens to the best of them!

The final team scores for the boys were:

         Walther Christian Academy:      35
         Westmont:                                 54
         Seneca:                                     77
         Lisle:                                          81
         Plano:                                        101

Cross country is like golf...which means we want a low score.  So that means we WON this meet!!!!

What's even more impressive is that Westmont qualified for State as a team last year and we beat them today by 19 points!  Way to go, boys!!  Looking forward to seeing what you do the rest of the season.

The 2nd photo bomber of the day!

 Next meet:
The Mane Event
at Lisle High School

2015 Charger Classic Invitational
(Blue Division)

Aside from it being a tad warm as the morning wore on, it was nearly a perfect day (especially if you compare it to last Friday when we got rained out!).  It was clear that it's still acting like the tail-end of summer, but fall-type weather should be just around the corner.  Though we were missing some of our key runners today, we had many individuals attain a new PR (personal record).  It was fun to watch.
Way to go, Broncos!!!!

Oakhurst is not the most spectator-friendly since the runners only loop around once, but it's made up for by the fact that it's such a beautiful setting!

We had a different variety of wildlife.  I heard that when we were at the Guerin Prep meet awhile back, some of the runners saw deer and SKUNK! Thankfully, we didn't see those here.

It's still looking more like summer than fall so far.

Team Dinner!!!

Probably one of the favorite times of the week.

Thanks to Mrs. Feltz and Mrs. Johnson for a delicious pasta meal!!

All fueled up and ready to go.
Let's show them what we've got tomorrow!!!
