Sectionals at Lisle High School

Weather-wise it was a perfect day for running, and as the day wore on, it wasn't too bad for spectators either. Open-mouth smile The Broncos put forth a super effort on a very difficult 5K course, and though only two individuals advanced to State, everyone deserves a high five!!!  It's been a great year and you should all be very proud of yourselves for making it this far as individuals and as a team.

We actually had a pretty good cheering squad this race!

First up:  Girls Varsity

There were 17 teams total in the girls' race.

Bang!

Going up the killer hill.

(Sorry for the blurry picture, girls!)

Status after rounding the first pile of straw bales...

This is at the beginning of the final stretch (in case you can't read it, it says, "TO STATE.").

Coming into the finish line...

Ale passed these runners at the very end to finish in 10th place at 20:36, a 53 second from her last run here at Lisle.

Sonja finished 40th at 21:58, a 20 second improvement from the last time on this same course.

Sandra also improved her time from last time and finished  49th at 22:17.

Nessa improved from her last 5K by 17 seconds and finished 57th at 22:52.

Melody was 63rd, finishing in 23:04, which is a full minute better than her last 5K.  Remarkable!!!

Anne came in at 25:18, a 40 second improvement from last time.

All of the point-earning runners were in the top 50%.
You all did a great job and should be proud of your accomplishment at the 2011 Sectionals.
Ale and Mr. Goffron, her Coach from middle school.
In addition to being 10th overall, she was the 4th qualifying individual for State!

Ale & Sandra's aunt, uncle, cousin and brother came out to cheer them on today as well.
(Hey, if any of you have family pics you want to post, send them my way.  I'll be happy to include them!)

Even Coach Koehne showed up to encourage the Broncos.

Varsity Boys

The boys were going up against 20 other teams today.

Up the "No Pain, No Gain" Hill.

(Don't know what happened exactly, but the rest of the team was too close together and bunched up and I couldn't get any more photos of them going up this hill...so on to the next photo site!)

If you look closely, you can see him!!!

Here's a better shot!

As a team, the boys placed 13th out of 21.

Awaiting the results while the final numbers are being tallied...

A final talk with his team--Good job, girls!
While waiting for the awards celebration, everyone got a little goofy.

Yes, she's falling!!!!  The pyramid started to cave in.

One of the assistant coach's responsibilities...becoming a dressing room?????

Though they did not qualify for State, they got seventh place overall, which is quite an accomplishment in itself.  It's the highest place earned at a Cross Country Sectionals in Walther's history!
Well done, Bronco girls!!!!!!!
