Cross Country Regional Championship

      Wow!  What a day!  Spoiler alert...we are the Regional Champions for the 2nd time in a row!  It's been quite a journey with some setbacks, doubts, and disappointments along the way, but in spite of all of those, we did it!  (I'm sooooo proud of our boys!)  Last year was the first time in a long time for achieving a Regional Championship, so the victory was sweet, but as one of the runners said this afternoon, "This time is even sweeter!"  They had to work hard to defend their championship and work hard they did!  Timothy Christian tried their hardest to take it from us.

 Addy's race was up first:

Addy finished in 29:57, which is her best time for a 5K this season, and quite a bit faster than last week's 3-mile race at Elmwood Park.  Way to go!!! Great way to finish the season.

Look real closely and you'll see David...

...well, maybe not David, but David's shoes.  In some small way, he still ended up contributing to this race!

 

 

Luis got up front right from the beginning and stayed within the top two or three positions the entire race.  He finished in 3rd place overall (ahead of all other Timothy Christian runners) in a time of 17:21, which is his fastest 5K time to date, and also his fastest mile pace for all races.  You're the tops, Luis!

Jack also ran his fastest 5K for the year today.  He finished in 6th place overall, allowing only 1 TCS athlete ahead of him by one spot.  His final time was 17:58.  Fantastic performance, Jack!

  

Julio was 10th overall, finishing with a time of 18:11, his fastest 5K for the year also, allowing only one TCS runner between him and Jack.  What a run, Julio!

Jaylin was 13th overall, finishing in 18:25, his fastest 5K for the year (this seems to be a recurring theme!!!), allowing only 1 TCS runner between him and Julio.  So impressive!!!

 

Nate had a fantastic performance, finishing up in 18th place with a time of 18:42.  The spread between him and Luis was 1:21, which is a huge improvement from earlier this year.  We needed you to come through, Nate, and YOU DID IT!!!   WOW!!!!

Darryl finished up in 19:28, which is his fastest 5K for the year.  Great job, Darryl.  (Could it have been the shoes???)

Gus crossed the finish line in 20:13.  Way to go, Gus!!!!

 We knew we had done well, but did we do well enough???  Now it was time to wait...

Then the announcement came, Timothy Christian was in 2nd place with a total of 48 points, and Walther Christian Academy was in 1st place with 45 points!!!

What followed was a barrage of pictures!!!

But of course, Mr. Goffron had brought along last year's plaque, so we had to pose with BOTH of them together!!!!

It was definitely an exciting day!

Next up, SECTIONALS!  And a chance to qualify as a team AGAIN for State!

I know we can do it.
