It was a perfect day for a race...cool enough to keep the runners from overheating, and yet sunny enough to keep the spectators comfortable (at least until the sun started setting!!!).  But of course, almost anything is better than last Saturday's rained-out race, so no complaints at all in light of that alternative!

In many ways it was a very successful day as well.  11 of our 16 runners achieved a new personal best for their 3-mile times.  And two of our varsity runners achieved "All-Conference" status.  Everyone has a lot to be proud of.

The varsity boys started off first:

For most of the race, Darryl hung back with the guys, but as the end approached, he put himself in the front and held it until the end.  Darryl finished in 9th place overall with a new personal best of 17:40, earning an "All-conference" title as well.

You would never know that Julio has been out of commission for most of the season.  He came back full force and finished in 11th place overall (achieving "All-Conference" as well) with a personal best of 17:35.

Jacob finished 14th overall with a time of 17:55.  This was also his personal best so far this season.

Nate pushed through some nasty shin splints, finishing only 3 seconds behind Jacob in 15th place overall. His final time of 17:58 was another personal best!

Christian, with his trademark sunglasses, was 17th overall and finished with a personal best of 18:04.

In spite of fighting a nasty cold, David also managed to get a personal best of 18:56.
All-Conference

All of our varsity boys excelled in today's race.  Not only that, but the spread between our first five runners was only 24 seconds.  Impressive!  Great job, guys!

The boys' Frosh/Soph and Open races were combined into one.

Our frosh/soph boys consisted of Quang, Lars, Aaron, Jonathan, and Chris:

Quang fought hard against a chest cold and was first for the FR/SO Walther boys to cross the line, 6th place overall.  His final time was 19:04.

Lars was 2nd for the team to cross the line, finishing 18th overall.  His final time was 21:22.

Aaron was only 15 seconds behind Lars, finishing in 21:37.  This was a personal best for Aaron.
Jonathan was next to cross the line for the Broncos, finishing in 22:36.
Chris continues to outshine himself.  He took a WHOLE MINUTE off his previous time, finishing with a time of 23:42!!!
The Open Boys ran simultaneously...

Steven took 48 seconds off of his previous time, finishing in 4th overall for the Open Boys with an amazing (personal best) time of 18:55!!!

Raffaele was only 2 seconds behind.  He also got a personal best, reducing his time by 30 seconds!  Official time was 18:57.

Xavier was only 4 seconds behind Raffaele, finishing in 19:01 (only 1 second slower than his previous personal best).

Gus was next to cross the line for the Broncos, finishing in 20:02.  He was 9th overall for this category, which means we had 4 guys in the top ten!!!

Victor finished in 21:47...another personal best by 50 seconds!!!

Sadly, this was the last official race for many of our runners.  Everyone made significant accomplishments this year.  You all have so much to be proud of!

Regionals is this Saturday back at Lisle.  Go Broncos!  Can't wait to watch you in action again!
