IC KNIGHTS CHALLENGE
CROSS COUNTRY MEET

Coach Goffron predicted that we would have a good day, and we definitely did!  Everyone got their best time so far for the season, and the majority of the runners got their best time since even last year!  Hmmmm...wondering if the team collectively decided to skip a lap around the course?  Well, if you were there, you'd know that was not necessarily an impossible feat.  The course was definitely the most confusing of the year so far, and making sure you knew when it was time to veer off and head to the finish line was not all that easy!  But no, I can assure you that no one missed the turnoff on purpose and the Broncos did indeed do a great job, again bringing home multiple medals and a third place team finish.  (By the way, anyone wanting to see the detailed results can go to www.racetime.info.)

Way to go, everyone!

Friday night...
As always, the competition weekends actually begin the night before with our team dinners.  Thanks to Mrs. Neubieser and Mrs. Clark for being our generous hostesses.

Come Saturday morning...

The first race was at 10:00 a.m. and started with the Varsity Girls: Ale, Jenny & Tamron.

Go Broncos!

Off to a great start.
It was definitely a smaller race today with only a total of 58 runners for the Varsity girls.

Ale put herself in the top group right away and was able to maintain a good position throughout the race, finishing in 5th place overall with a time of 20:41.3.  Fantastic!

Jenny did a great job of pushing to be the second finisher for the team, completing the course in 21:51.0, coming in 17th place.

Tamron also excelled today, getting her best time like the others, and finishing 23rd with a time of 22:28.9.  All 3 of our runners finished in the top 42% of the group.  Impressive!

It's 10:40 a.m.  Time for the Varsity Boys.

 Off they go!

At this point in the race (on the left), Eric was in 2nd place and a certain mother was overheard saying to the leader of the pack, "Great job!  But you better watch out for my boy who's right behind you!"

Eric did a fabulous job overall, fighting another side cramp but pushing through and getting 3rd place with a time of 16:24.2.  Stupendous!

Jaylin finished 13th overall with a time of 17:38.5.  Wonderful!

Mitch did an awesome job and was the next runner to cross the finish line, coming in 14th with a time of 17:47.1.

Luis got pinned in towards the back of the group early on, but worked faithfully to get himself back in the game, so to speak.  By the end of the race he had moved himself up into 17th overall with a time of 17:55.3.

Here he is demonstrating how NOT to race toward the finish line.   Thanks for the tutorial, Luis! Emoji

 Is it James?
No!
It's Jacob steeling James' trademark 'thumbs up!'
(And Eric's non-matching socks.)

Jacob was our final scoring runner, finishing in 24th place (All of the 1st 5 runners were in the top 43% of the group.).  Their combined score earned them 3rd place overall out of 8 teams.  Impressive!

But wait!  We're not done yet.  Jose & Jack are not far behind.

The hat has come off...now we're getting serious.

Very serious!
Jose finished in  29th place with a time of 18:20.7.    Great job!

Jack is still recovering from the virus that was going around, but he managed to be the next runner after Jose, finishing in 30th overall with a time of 18:23.6.  Great job, Jack!

Interesting fact:  The 1st place team had 45 points total.  The 2nd place team had 50.  We had 70 points while the next team had 71.  Had any one of the top runners been passed up one more time, we would have dropped to 4th place.  Way to go, guys!  It was close!

Final race of the day was at 11:20 a.m.:
The Open Run

It was a bit chilly today, as can be noted by the choice of attire during this final prayer time of the day.

Off they go!

Kobe was our top finisher, coming in 2nd place overall, with a time of 18:50.3  Fantastic!

Gus finished strong coming in 11th place. His time was 19:34.1.  Another impressive finish!!!

       Being cheered on by Dad.

A strong finish for James, coming in 19th place.
Time was 19:55.4.

Jose did a great job of completing his first 3 mile race for the season, finishing with a time of 23:46.0.

Zach put in a stronger performance today and finished in a time of 24:34.2.  Great job!

Claudia was also in the open race.  There were 48 boy runners total, but there were only 15 girls.
Claudia's final time was 27:02.6.

Relaxing after the race

With cookies, of course!  Jose, will you please share?

 AWARDS CEREMONY:

At the end of the day, the team works together to clean up and pack up.

Steven is quite helpful in barking out orders and getting things done.
Always looking for a way to work in a group hug! (They're actually pushing the tent together so that they can get the cover over it.)

These 2 were holding out on us last year by hiding one of their cross country runners!  By the way, it was great to see all the parents at today's meet.
***

Enjoy the weekend, but be ready for the next meet which is Tuesday at Elmwood Park High School.
See you there!
