Elmwood Park High School
Tiger Invitational

The weather started out quite comfortable, but the breeze kept getting cooler and cooler.  Finally the rain couldn't hold off any longer, and then...well, see below for the end of the story.

(I apologize for the quality of the pictures...I don't know if it is due to the lighting, or if I had my camera on the wrong setting...am still trying to figure it all out.  Will hopefully have it fixed by the next meet.)

Does anyone have an explanation for why we don't just set this up at the regular height???

Warming up

First race of the afternoon:  Varsity Girls

Feeling a little silly before the race.

Our faithful timekeeper and cheerleader.

A final prayer...

...and the traditional cheer.

Off they go...

Final time:  21:06

Final time: 24:00

First race after recovering from an injury.

Nessa gets the prize for being the only girl to improve her time at this race. Final time was 24:24, which is 39 seconds faster than her previous best 3 miler this year.  Way to go, Nessa!!!

Next up, Varsity Boys

A top 25 finisher.  Great job!  Final time: 17:28, an 11 second improvement.

Final time:  18:00, a 10 second improvement.

Eric:  19:25, a 27 second improvement.  Jacob: 19:27, 1 one minute, 9 second improvement!!!

19:58, one whole minute improvement.

20:40, which is 2 minutes and 4 seconds faster than before!

22:48

(Sorry, Juan.  Somehow the officials did not record your time.)

There were no team scores provided so we don't know what place the team finished, but overall, the boys excelled at this meet with the majority of them improving their times and getting their PR's, and some of the time improvements were VERY signficant!!!!  Way to go, boys!!!!

Final race of the day (sort of):  JV Boys

Did anyone think to pray for no lightning?

Some girls don't know when to be serious.

Well, the JV boys took off so quickly, a spark was generated somewhere, and BAM.  Lightning struck.  Fortunately, not on the running field, but definitely too close for safety.  The alarm was sounded within minutes of the race starting and the runners were called back to take cover.  The race was cancelled.

There is a 9 day wait until the next race:
Conference, at Marmion Academy, on October 13.  Pray for no lightning!!!!

Hasta la vista.
