2015 Charger Classic Invitational
(Blue Division)

Aside from it being a tad warm as the morning wore on, it was nearly a perfect day (especially if you compare it to last Friday when we got rained out!).  It was clear that it's still acting like the tail-end of summer, but fall-type weather should be just around the corner.  Though we were missing some of our key runners today, we had many individuals attain a new PR (personal record).  It was fun to watch.
Way to go, Broncos!!!!

Oakhurst is not the most spectator-friendly since the runners only loop around once, but it's made up for by the fact that it's such a beautiful setting!

We had a different variety of wildlife.  I heard that when we were at the Guerin Prep meet awhile back, some of the runners saw deer and SKUNK! Thankfully, we didn't see those here.

It's still looking more like summer than fall so far.

Prepping and Warming up:

Part of the course that the runners get to enjoy!

Stretch time!

Let's see if it all paid off...

Girls' Varsity:

Claudia and Tamron were our runners today.  Lauren came to cheer them on.

Today's race was probably closer to 2.95 miles rather than 3.0, which means the runners' times would be about 20-30 seconds faster than usual; but aside from that, Tamron cut off a big chunk of time.  Her last 3 mile race was 24:35 and today's was 23:21.  A new PR.  Way to go, Tamron!!!

Claudia also reduced her time by a significant amount.  She went from 27:45 two weeks ago to 26:09 today.  This is also a PR for her.  Super!!!!!

And then came the boys' varsity...

***

Mitch ended up being our first runner to cross the finish line for the team, earning himself a trophy (16th place) and a new PR for this year of 17:07.  Way to shine, Mitch!!!!

David is Mr. Goffron's new secret weapon.  But it's so secret, even Mr. G. didn't see this one coming!!  David cut off over a minute from his previous 3-mile time, finishing in 22nd place (missing a trophy by 2 places) with a new PR of 17:13.  WOW!!!!

Such determination!  Jose's efforts paid off: He finished 3rd for the team (37th overall) with a new PR of 17:42.  Impresionante! (Impressive!)

Jaylin wasn't having his best race due to an intense headache that momentarily sidelined him, but he pushed through in spite of the pain to finish fourth for the team with a time of 18:32.
Way to not give up, Jaylin!!!

Steven has been improving over time and his hard work has also paid off.  He was our fifth scoring runner today, finishing with his new PR of 19:35.  Fantastic, Steven!!!!

Julio didn't quite get a PR today, but he did improve his time significantly from his race 2 weeks ago.  He finished today in 19:42.  Wonderful!

Aaron also achieved a PR today; not only that, but his time today compared to last year at this same course is nearly 4 minutes faster at 20:19.  Amazing strides! (Pun intended)

Kevin is also in our new PR group today, finishing his race in 24:28.  Marvelous!

Traivon gets cheered on by fellow Broncos as he heads toward the finish.  He completed his course in 25:33, which is a lot faster than his race 2 weeks ago.  Keep it up, Traivon!

Final race of the day: OPEN (Boys and Girls)

Demaja and Xavier ran in the open races today.

Xavier kept his running consistent today and took off over 3 minutes from his last race!!!  He finished in 25:35.  Stupendous!

Demaja finished her race in 37:21.  Good effort, Demaja!
Award Ceremony:

Trophy for 16th place!  Woo hoo!!!!

There should have been an award for our coach.  This team continues to improve significantly, with nearly 70% of our runners achieving a PR today.  Now THAT'S impressive!

Thanks, Coach Goffron!!!!

See you all next Tuesday at Westmont High School.
